WHAT IS UN-POSED?

One size does not fit all when it comes to family photos. If you prefer smiles and color coordinated outfits, this might not be for you. (And that's ok!) My style is less focused on posing, more focused on feelings. If you'd like photos of your family baking cookies, reading bedtime stories, creating chalk masterpieces, or picking out the perfect Christmas Tree, then I'm the photographer for you!

WHY UN-POSED?

Because time flies...

Before you know it your family will no longer spend Saturday mornings in their PJs making pancakes. Your kids will grow up. They will spend weekends with friends and grab breakfast on their way out the door. Someday they will not fit on your lap and their problems will not fade away after the time-out has ended. You will want to remember the moments when they were little. The moments they reached for your hand, cried for your hugs, and whispered secrets into your ear. The big moments will always be documented. Birthdays, first days of school, and Christmas mornings will forever be captured with cameras and cell phones. But the small things will slip by us. We need photos to remind us these days existed.

Because life is messy...

And that's OK! Every day life is not ironed dresses and color coordinated shirts. Every day is not "picture day". It is not perfect, or clean, or without massive meltdown at bedtime. But life does not have to be perfect to be beautiful. We should not hide away our baskets of dirty laundry and half-painted bathrooms. These are the things that make a house a home. There is beauty is this mess and we should celebrate it!

Because everyone should be in the frame...

And lastly, wouldn't it be nice if you were all in the frame? It's hard to put down our cell phones for fear of missing moments. And then we scroll through 500 photos and realize we are missing in every single one. This is a chance to put down your cell phone and allow me to capture the memories for a day.

WHAT TO EXPECT

I understand that this may be a new (and possibly terrifying) concept for some, so let me answer some common questions for you!

"Am I not supposed to smile?"
"What should I wear?"
"Does this mean I have to hire a cleaning crew!?"
"Can I get a couple of everyone smiling at the camera?"

Location...

No, you absolutely do not have to hire a cleaning crew. And you don't even need to have the session in your home. Sometimes it is better to take things outside to a new and exciting (or old and familiar) place that you don't get to visit often. Maybe a trip to the zoo is in order. Or an annual family cook-out is the place where your kids get to run wild and free for a day. No one place is better than another. You know your family best, you tell me what will work! If you're still unsure about what will work for you and your family, shoot me a message and we'll figure it out together!

To smile or not to smile...

The only direction I will give to you is to ignore my existence completely (except please laugh at my terrible jokes). I think you will be surprised, after only a few minutes you won’t even notice the sound of the shutter. My goal is to capture you and your family as you are. Does this mean you won't get a few "everyone say cheese" photos? Absolutely not! We will always have time to snuggle up on laps and in arms to get some group shots!

Wardrobe...

Wardrobe is a common question I receive for these sessions since we are all used to wearing our "Sunday best" for family pictures. My best advice is to dress for the occasion! If your session includes a day of fishing at the pond, then throw on your fishing boots. If it includes a day of walking around the zoo, then you should wear your comfortable walking shoes. I would suggest steering clear of shirts that have graphics on them (leave the Dora The Explorer shirt at home), as they can be distracting in photos. If you are still having trouble deciding, neutrals are always best and go with any background!

Pricing

Un-Posed family sessions start at $200. The price of the session will depend a bit on the time spent photographing, and the activities for the day. I would love to give you a custom quote! Send me a message with some details about what you're looking for and I will shoot you a price. Easy as that!

Each session will include an online gallery of edited images. This gallery is yours to share with family, friends, and on social media. You will be able to download the high-res files straight from the gallery to your computer. I will also provide a print release so you can print at your leisure. If you would like to talk about custom books, canvases, or other products, I would love to help!
