About

a little about me...

I did not become a photographer with the intent of creating something new. But rather, with the desire to capture what was already there. In 2012 I graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the Illinois Institute of Art with a focus in documentary photography. I have found a real passion in documenting weddings. Documenting the emotions of a day this big is such a joy for me. There is something magical that happens when we set aside our expectations of what a wedding “should” look like and instead enjoy it for what it is. That is the magic I aim to capture.

I grew up in a small town in Central Illinois in the 90's. Growing up I always thought "anywhere but here". When I was 21 I moved to Chicago where I lived for seven years. I loved the tall buildings and the rush of people filling the streets. Now I find myself amidst the cornfields and rolling prairies again thinking "nowhere but here". I will always find myself torn between the energy of the city and the calm of the country.

I think it's important to acknowledge where we came from, because I believe it has everything to do with the people we become. I grew up without the internet, without texting, without tablets, without social media. I remember the small things most of all... the sound of my dad cutting wood in the garage, the shallow sound of my mom playing piano, peddling my bike until my legs went numb. All my life I just wanted to keep these small moments, in some form, so that I could reach back for them whenever I wanted. Photography became that form.

Life is messy. It's more complicated than we intended and offers more love than we ever imagined. There are so many small moments that catch us off guard that we want to hold onto. I'd like to capture those little moments for you.

If you're looking for honest photos of life and love, you've come to the right place.

my approach to photography...

My goal is very simple; document what's happening. All of it. The little smiles, small embraces, big laughs, quiet tears, fingers intertwined, subtle glances, and first steps. None of these things will never happen the way they happened at this time. I believe there should be proof that you laughed at that joke, said those vows, kissed that cheek, and cried those tears. And it should be captured in a way that is beautiful and full of feeling.
